Test Immune Status
ACTION STEPS:
1. As a starting point to check immune status, request a blood test that includes the following:
- CBC with differentials
- RBC zinc
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin A
Watch the video above to see what a CBC report looks like.
2. After getting your results, make sure to watch the videos below. They’ll give you the optimal reference ranges to compare your results with, along with explanations to help figure out what could be causing suboptimal results:
- Interpreting WBC Differentials (Neutrophil, Lymphocyte, Monocyte, Eosinophil, Basophil)
- Testing Zinc Status for the reference ranges, and then Risk Factors for Zinc Deficiency to determine why it may be low, and then Correcting Zinc Deficiency to optimize level.
- Read this handout on Vitamin D to determine the optimal range and dose.
- Aim for vitamin A level to be in the upper half to 2/3rds of the reference range. If it’s low, consider consuming more vitamin A rich foods (i.e. organ meats) and/or supplementing with vitamin A or cod liver oil until levels are optimal. Always retest.
