Testing Mold in Your Environment 🏠🦠
In today’s lesson, “Testing Mold in Your Environment,” from the ‘Intro to Mold & Mycotoxin Illness‘ course, we break down the key steps to properly assess your home if you suspect mold exposure.
A thorough mold assessment usually includes:
🔍 Visual inspection – A detailed check of all areas, moisture readings, and sometimes thermal imaging to detect hidden mold.
🌬️ Air sampling – Comparing indoor and outdoor mold levels. Helpful, but must be paired with other tests since some toxic molds don’t float in the air.
🧪 Swab testing – Used when there’s visible mold or suspicious spots to identify specific species.
🧹 ERMI dust testing – Gives deeper insight into the types of mold in your home. You can do it yourself, but the results are best reviewed with a mold consultant.
💡 Takeaway: No single test tells the full story. Using a combination of methods gives the most accurate picture of your home’s air quality.
💬 Question: Have you ever tested your home or workspace for mold?
