Did you know every estrogen molecule in your body was once… testosterone?
Here’s the surprising part: for most of your life, you actually make as much testosterone as estrogen… sometimes even more.
We’ve been taught that testosterone is a “male” hormone, but that’s not true. It’s a human hormone. In women, it helps build and protect
- bone density
- lean muscle
- metabolism
- sharpen focus and motivation
- and keep mood and sexual health in balance.
Your ovaries and adrenal glands produce testosterone every single day. In your twenties, your levels are often (much!) higher than your estrogen levels[1]. The only reason we think of testosterone as “male” is because men make more… not because women make none.
The problem? Levels start to drop in your late twenties. Around one percent a year, sometimes faster if you’re under constant stress, sleeping poorly, overtraining, using birth control, or missing key nutrients. By menopause, you could have 50–70% less than you did in your twenties.
When that happens, it’s not just about libido. You might notice more brain fog, less energy, stubborn weight, lower drive for life, and less resilience to stress.
The good news is you can protect it by:
-
Strength training two to four times per week
-
Eating enough healthy fats like olive oil, avocados, nuts, and fatty fish
-
Getting consistent, good-quality sleep
-
Managing stress through recovery time, mindfulness, or nature walks
-
Avoiding long-term extreme calorie restriction
-
Considering nutrients like zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, omega-3, ashwagandha, maca, and boron
-
Exploring bioidentical hormone therapy under medical supervision if needed
Every bit of estrogen in your body started as testosterone. Protect it, and you don’t just age better… you live better.
Now I’m curious… how much more testosterone do you think women make than estrogen before menopause?
Scroll down, tap your answer, and let’s see what most people think. There’s no right or wrong here! Just a fun way to see what we all guess before revealing the truth.
