First — lymphatic drainage should never cause pain. Pain increases tension in the body, and tension decreases flow.
Second — the order matters. Contrary to the typical “start at your feet” advice (like with many dry brushing guides), Dr. Perry explains why you should always begin at the collarbone, then work down, before moving from the feet or head.
He likens it to a dam: release pressure in the right spot, and the flow will naturally follow — no forcing required.
