• 🚫 Still taking folic acid? Here’s why it’s worth a second look — especially if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive. 👶💊

Folic acid is the synthetic form of vitamin B9, while folate is the natural version that your body can use more easily. Unlike folate, folic acid needs to be processed by the liver, and when it’s not fully converted, it can build up in the bloodstream.

That excess has been linked to increased risk of colon and prostate cancer, weakened immune function, and higher risk of gestational diabetes (especially mid-pregnancy).

👉 That’s why it’s so important to check your supplement labels. Many prenatal vitamins still contain folic acid, even though better options exist.

      Look for these forms instead:
      ✔️ Folate
      ✔️ L-methylfolate (5-MTHF)
      ✔️ Metafolin
      ✔️ Quatrefolic
